Intellectual Capital Development in Palestinian Higher Education Institutions, and the Best Practices to Develop it
A Case study.
Abstract
The study aimed to examine the best practices for meeting the requirements of intellectual capital development in Palestinian higher education institutions. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative approach was employed using the interview. The study population consisted of(27) employees in the supervisory positions in one Palestinian higher education institutions. In addition, a purposive sample of 12 employees was chosen. The results revealed that there is an urgent need in Palestinian higher education institutions to pay attention to the development of intellectual capital to improve their human resources. The study revealed a set of important factors affecting the development of intellectual capital including: adoption and understanding of the importance of intellectual capital by the institutions' departments; emphasizing the development of who represent the actual institutional capital; building the competences of the staff who are in charge of managing human resources; and providing the Palestinian institutions of higher education with sufficient financial and physical resources to enhance their capabilities to develop their intellectual capital. The study concluded that the development of intellectual capital should be a major component of the strategies of higher education institutions as a prerequisite for improving their performance.
