Abstract

School leaders have a strong and intuitive sense of the urgency to build a sustainable future. We smell the problem in the air; We hear it in the noise around us, and taste it in the water we drink. We see it in the garbage of our streets, and the crowding of our living spaces. We reap the results of wasting our resources, and not preserving them. None of us finds that he does not read, hear or witness the problems that our environment suffers from. The role of school leadership in implementing sustainability and education for sustainable development has rarely been taken into account.

The study aimed to identify the most important sustainable green school practices in public secondary schools, and the most important lean production tools that can be employed in public secondary schools to adopt sustainable green school practices, and to arrive at a suggested vision for the role of school leadership in implementing sustainable green school practices in public secondary schools. According to the lean production approach, In order to achieve this goal, the study used a 33-item questionnaire distributed on 4 axes. The study population was 109, while the study sample was 86 public secondary school principals and agents.

The study found a set of mechanisms for the school leadership to adopt to implement the school’s green practices in accordance with the lean production approach, including: the need for the school’s vision to include its orientation towards supporting sustainable green practices, and the need to develop knowledge and awareness among employees and students of the importance of sustainable green practices inside and outside the school, as well as Providing a school culture to achieve sustainable green school practices, such as the school leadership promoting in its staff and students the appreciation of sustainable green practices and reducing waste, and that the school leadership is committed to providing an organizational culture and a supportive organizational climate for the implementation of sustainable green practices in the school, and that the school leadership provides traditional and digital educational resources to educate Employees and students adopt green practices inside and outside the school, and make school buildings and classrooms a tool for sustainable environmental learning.
